Talented and safety aware engineering graduate with excellent creative problem solving skills

[Attention. Capture attention in paragraph 1]

In your job posting, you indicated that you were looking for a talented engineering graduate with with attention to detail, creativity, excellent problem skills and a good awareness of relevant regulations. Well, I have a 2:1 degree in Engineering and I spent a year in industry working for a leading civil engineering firm where I was required to assist engineers with aspects of drawing and design – and during this time I demonstrated all the required skills for the role. Please find my CV and Cover letter to both apply for and justify why I am suited to this role.

[Interest. Develop interest by showing how you match their requirements in paragraph 2]

Your job advert asked for candidates who have can combine creativity and ambitious design  but  who can also conform to industry standard safety specifications.  For my third year project I came up with a radical bridge design and I enjoyed the challenging of making it comply with safety regulations. You can see a full list of my designs on my website here and I will be pleased to talk about my designs at interview.

[Desire. Build desire by creating a sense of scarcity paragraph 3]

I have 2.5 combined years of work experience and internships in engineering firms and I accumulated more engineering experience than the typical engineering graduate.

[Culture fit. Show how you fit the team culture paragraph 4]

I noticed on your company blog that your engineering team are keen climbers and mountaineers. I also enjoy mountaineering and regularly climb at Symond’s Yat in Gloucestershire and so I think I may have a lot in common with your team.

[Call to action in paragraph 5]

As  you can see I am excited about this opportunity and am keen to show that I am the graduate who can really make a difference to your business. I do look forward to hearing from you!

Yours sincerely,
